Gurdaspur, July 30

Leading Congressmen of Gurdaspur maintained that Health and Medical Education Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra’s alleged humiliation of Dr Raj Bahadur was a proof that “Punjab is evolving backward.”

Apart from being a surgeon par-excellence, Dr Raj Bahadur is a walking lighthouse forever radiating decency and knowledge. He deserves to be respected. Jouramajra tried to show that by virtue of being a minister he was superior to him. — Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, ex-cabinet minister

Ex-Cabinet Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said: “A wise man like Dr Bahadur is superior to any insult which can be put upon him. Apart from being a surgeon par-excellence, he is a walking lighthouse forever radiating decency and knowledge. He deserves to be respected. Jouramajra tried to show that by virtue of being a minister he was superior. A nincompoop is never a match for a sagacious man. Brilliant minds like Dr Bahadur are indeed rare to find.”

Ex-Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said not only the Health Minister but the entire Cabinet must resign. “As a Punjabi, my head hangs in shame. What message are we giving to the international community? I have received scores of calls from NRIs deriding the minister’s behavior. Will CM Bhagwant Mann act and ask for his resignation or will he sweep the highly unsavoury incident under the carpet? Such a behavior has brought the entire state into disrepute and disgrace. Jouramajra has proved that he and his party belong to the stone-age.”

AAP leaders of the area were questioned on the incident but they maintained a sphinx-like silence throughout the day.

Ex-Cabinet minister Aruna Choudhury took to Twitter and said, “Public humiliation of a distinguished and famous doctor like Dr Raj Bahadur is unacceptable.”

Ex–Qadian MLA Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa went to the extent of saying the minister should be arrested for disgracing a leading public servant like Dr Raj Bahadur. “The doctor was on duty when Jauramajra insulted him. My advice to the minister in future is to be sure you taste your words before you spit them out in public. He should be arrested immediately and Section 152 of the IPC should be imposed on him. ” he said.

Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa called for the resignation of Jouramajra. He said, “The minister has not abused an individual. He has abused an institution. He has brought disrepute and dishonor to his party and Punjab.”
