The accused have been identified as Balraj Singh, Sukhraj Singh, Chanpreet Singh, Gajjan Singh, Parneet Singh, alias Gurlal, Komalpreet Kaur and Manjit Singh, all residents of Jagdev Kalan village. The police have arrested five of the accused — Balraj Singh, Sukhraj Singh, Chanpreet Singh, Gajjan Singh and Manjit Singh — while the remaining two are absconding.

According to the complainant, the accused entered the house armed with weapons, including a baseball bat, sticks and sharp-edged weapons. Komalpreet Kaur allegedly instigated the attack, accusing Jagjit Singh and his nephew Manpreet Singh of making allegations of theft during a relative’s wedding.

During the altercation, the accused allegedly caught hold of Jagjit Singh, pushed him and repeatedly struck his head against the stairs before throwing him to the ground. Some of the attackers allegedly sat on his chest and punched him repeatedly, leaving him unconscious.

Family members raised an alarm and attempted to rescue him, but the accused allegedly threatened them with dire consequences before fleeing the spot. Jagjit Singh was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Amritsar, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Following the statement of the complainant, a case has been registered at the Rajasanasi police station.

Police officials said further investigation is underway and efforts are being made to arrest the remaining accused.
