Controversial appointments may find place in SGPC meet

AMRITSAR: The controversial appointments made last year during Kirpal Singh Badungar’s tenure can find place in the agenda of the upcoming SGPC meeting scheduled for January 16 at its headquarters in Amritsar.

Amritsar, January 12

The controversial appointments made last year during Kirpal Singh Badungar’s tenure can find place in the agenda of the upcoming SGPC meeting scheduled for January 16 at its headquarters in Amritsar. Sources said the report of the scrutinising committee would be submitted during the meeting. Besides, discussion over various issues related to Sikhs and gurdwara’s administrative arrangements will take place.

Though around 500 recruitments were made during his one year span, controversy had erupted over at least 100 posts occupied by those officials or their relatives who seldom matched the requisite criteria.

It was alleged that SGPC officials, who shared close proximity with Badungar, were obliged “unjustifiably”. In November, the issue was also brought to the notice of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal prior to finalising the candidate for the new president. A total revamp was witnessed after the new body, led by Gobind Singh Longowal, came into picture. — TNS
