The staff at the crematorium on local Sachkhand Road in Tarn Taran gave the ashes of a dead person to someone else instead of giving them to the actual family owners who objected strongly against this gross negligence here on Friday. The matter became so heated that the local city police were called to the spot, who assured of action against the negligent persons after which the situation turned calm.

Naveen Kumar said that today, as soon as his family came to take the ashes, they learnt that the ashes of his father Tilak Raj had been given to someone else. When Naveen Kumar contacted the family that had received the ashes, they were informed that the ashes have been submerged in the Ganga river at Haridwar. A member of the Trust managing the crematorium, Sawinder Singh Arora, a former municipal councillor, said that such unfortunate incidents often happen here. He expressed his sympathy to the family and assured action against the error. President of the crematorium Trust, Jatinder Kumar Sood, said the matter will be resolved amicably.

Inspector Navdeep Singh, SHO, city police station, said that they have made efforts to resolve the matter. He said that since both the families took the ashes to the holy river according to Hindu rituals, it became a little easier to resolve the matter.

Naveen Kumar said that he had asked his children living abroad to perform the ritual of immersing the ashes, but they have been deprived of the opportunity to pay their last respects to an elder member of the family.
