CPI honours Ghadarite Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna
The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Sunday organised a political and cultural programme to commemorate the birth anniversary of Ghadarite Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna at his native village of Bhakna.
The annual event this year was held under the chairpersonship of Balwinder Singh Dudhala, Jasbir Singh Gill, Gurdial Singh Khadoor Sahib, Gurbinder Singh Sohal, Gurdeep Singh Gill Wali, Gurmukh Singh Shergill, and Rupinder Kaur Marimegha.
As per tradition, after the ‘bhog’ of the Akhand Path, Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna’s family and the Communist Party of India held a political conference.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, party state secretary Bant Singh Brar and state leader Harbhajan Singh said, today, the situation in the country was harmful for the working class.
The BJP government at the Centre was making new laws, which were strangling labourers and farmers and benefiting corporate houses, they added.
They said Baba Bhakna and his Ghadri comrades had sacrificed their lives for “real independence”, and, even after Independence, they struggled for a socialist system of governance.
Today, both the Centre and the state government were misleading people, they said, adding that hatred was being fostered in the name of religion and caste. Comrade Gurmeet, general secretary, Desh Bhagat Yadgar Committee, Jalandhar, said Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna had made a great effort for the education of boys and girls of the village, opening a school on 10 acres of his land.
