Cross-border weapon smuggler arrested with two pistols in Amritsar
The CIA staff of the Amritsar (Rural) police have arrested a cross-border weapon smuggler and recovered two pistols from his possession. He was identified as Rajinder Singh, alias Sona, a resident of Dande village falling under the Gharinda police station here. The police impounded his bike (bearing registration number Punjab-02-BB-8961) in the case.
Harinder Singh Gill, SP (D), Amritsar (Rural), said the police recovered a 9mm pistol with magazine and a .30 bore pistol with magazine from him. A case under the Arms Act was registered against the accused at the Gharinda police station, he said.
Sharing details, the SP said the police got information that Rajinder had links with Pakistan-based smugglers and was involved in cross-border smuggling of weapons. The informer told the police that the accused was standing near the Attari grain market for delivering weapons consignment, smuggled from Pakistan, to some persons. The SP said immediately a team of the CIA staff raided the designated spot and arrested the accused resulting in recovery of two pistols.
In the second incident, the rural police arrested four persons, who indulged in indiscriminate firing into the air in Baba Bakala Sahib area, leading to panic among residents. The police recovered .315 bore rifle with two bullets and three empty shells and .45 bore pistol with two live cartridges and four empty shells from them.
Those arrested were identified as Jatinder Singh and Amardeep Singh of Baba Bakala Sahib, Ranjit Singh of Mohabbat Nagar in Kapurthala and Simranpal Singh of Mansoorwal in Kapurthala. Their two accomplices Arwinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh of Baba Bakala Sahib were yet to be arrested.
