Cross case against Akali workers in Saadpur clash

The rural police have registered a cross case against eight Akali workers on the complaint of Congress worker Jasmitter Singh, a resident of Chogawan.

Earlier, the Jandiala police had booked 20 Congressmen, including Jasmitter Singh, for allegedly thrashing a SAD worker and pulling him by hair, thereby hurting their religious sentiments, late on Sunday evening.

Jasmitter Singh has stated in his complaint that when he was canvassing at Saadpur village regarding the Block Samiti election of her mother, Parmjit Kaur, who is a Congress candidate, Ravi Sidhu, along with other SAD supporters, tried to drag him out of his vehicle and passed casteist remarks against him. He alleged that the Akali workers had manhandled him.

On the complaint of Jasmitter, the police have booked Gurbakhsh Singh, Sandeep Singh, Kashmir Singh, Amrik Singh and Gursharn Singh, residents of Chogawan, Randhir Singh, Dharm Singh and Ravi Sidhu under Section 3(1) (R) SC/ST Act, and Section 341, 342, 323 and 506 of the IPC.

Reacting on the cross case, Bikram Singh Majithia, MLA from Majitha, said, “The situation has become such that the Congress was getting cases filed against victims of repression. The son of a Dalit candidate was insulted and another was dragged by his beard at Chaugawana Saadpur village in Majithia.”

He had led a dharna in front of the Jandiala Guru police station to demand justice in the case.

“Though a case was registered under Section 295-A and we were assured other sections would also be added, today, a cross case was registered against the victims under the SC Prevention of Cruelty Act. It is a false case to suppress the Akali candidates,” he added.

On September 16, the police had booked Jasmitar Singh, Jugraj Singh and Lovepreet Singh, all residents of Chogwan, Mohan Singh, his son Raja Harninder Singh of Nibbarwind and Akashdeep of Majitha under Sections 295, 452 and 506 of the IPC.
