Culture shouldn’t be imposed: Bajwa

AMRITSAR: As many as 173 gold medals, 15 memorial medals, Shri Sham Sunder Memorial Trophy, 179 Ph.D, 21 M.Phil, 256 master’s and 256 bachelor’s degrees were awarded to students during the GNDU Golden Jubilee convocation on Friday.

As many as 173 gold medals, 15 memorial medals, Shri Sham Sunder Memorial Trophy, 179 Ph.D, 21 M.Phil, 256 master’s and 256 bachelor’s degrees were awarded to students during the GNDU Golden Jubilee convocation on Friday.

Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Minister of Higher Education, highlighted challenges being faced by society. Addressing gathering he said, “I will like to invite views from the esteemed gathering of professors and educationist to carry out a study on the upcoming education policy and guide us. I fail to understand why is the policy being changed? The previous one is good. The policy must keep us one. No culture should be imposed on anyone. We have to save our cultural.”

Talking about the growing trend of using mobile phone, he said that it had made society comfortable but at the same time left negative effects.

Multiple projects of the university were inaugurated digitally, such as University Institute of Technology, UGC Faculty Development Centre, and foundation stones of Guru Nanak Dev Golden Jubilee Convention Centre, School of Education, Faculty of Agriculture buildings were also laid.

Raja Randhir Singh, Lifetime Vice-President of the Olympic Council of Asia, and Gurtej Singh Sandhu, Senior Fellow and Vice President, Micron Technology, Inc. USA, were honoured with honoris causa degrees for their contribution to their respective fields. Both of them shared their experiences of life with the students.

Vice Chancellor Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu apprised the chief guest and others of the activities and achievement of the university in the field of academics, research, culture and sports.
