Dasehra celebrated with religious fervour

AMRITSAR: People from all walks of life celebrated Dasehra and burnt effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarana and Meghnad here on Friday.

People from all walks of life celebrated Dasehra and burnt effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarana and Meghnad here on Friday.

Following the orders of Punjab and Haryana High Court, the district administration allowed the burning of effigies for three hours between 5 pm and 8pm.

Effigies of different sizes and colours were put to flames at Durgiana Temple ground, Chheharta, Ranjit Avenue, New Amritsar, Goddess Bhadarkali Temple near Gate Khazana, Daburji and many other places.

The Shri Durgiana Committee and Shri Dasehra Committee jointly held a programme at the open ground near Gobindgarh Fort. Education Minister OP Soni, Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu and veteran BJP leader Lakshmi Kanta Chawla were among the prominent present.

The Shri Dussehra Committee, Amritsar, led by former local bodies minister Anil Joshi, held a programme at Ranjit Avenue. The three effigies of Ravana, Kumbkaran and Meghnath (each125-feet tall) were burnt into ashes. Minister of State Jitendra Singh was the chief guest.

Congress MLA Inderbir Singh Bolaria was chief guest at Dussehra festivities held at Bhadarkali Temple near Gate Khazana. School Education and Environment Minister OP Soni led the Dasehra celebrations at Naraingarh. Dasehra represents giving the message that good always wins finally, he said.

It is notable that Soni has been leading the celebrations here for around 25 years and the festival is celebrated in religious zeal.

While addressing the people gathered to attend the celebrations, the minister congratulated and appealed them to vow to shun the evil on the occasion.

RSS holds march 

Tarn Taran: The district unit of the RSS took out a march on Dasehra here on Friday. The police had made tight security arrangements on the occasion. The march started from the local Gandhi Municipal Park and by passing though markets and streets, it ended at the Sarav Hitkari Vidia Mandir. Harinder Aggarwal, a member of the RSS, said the RSS activists had pledged to be united for the country’s unity and integrity.
