Deputy Commissioner Shiv Dullar Singh Dhillon on Friday constituted vigil teams to check the burning of stubble in the district. The nodal officers have been deployed to keep a vigil on the practice in rural areas. The DC office issued directions to the officers to take strict action against those who would burn stubble.

Deputy Commissioner Shiv Dullar Singh said as per the directions of the National Green Tribunal, no one would be allowed to burn stubble. “We have constituted vigil teams and deployed nodal officers in the district. If anyone is found burning crop residue, we will take strict action against him,” said the DC.

As per the directions issued to the officers, they will have to register a criminal case against those farmers who will burn stubble alongside the runway and airfield.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the nodal officers to motivate the farmers to use only super SMS system-equipped combines for harvesting. The farmers were also asked to use the machines for direct sowing of wheat and settle stubble in the fields.

The teams would work under the area Sub-Divisional Magistrates. If the teams found stubble burning in the fields of a government employee, departmental action would be taken against him, said the DC.
