Delivery firm staff foil robbery attempt; one in police net

A robbery bid at a delivery company office in Majitha was foiled after the office manager, with the help of an employee, managed to overpower one of two armed youths who allegedly entered the premises with their faces covered and brandished a pistol.

The incident took place around 1.30 pm at the delivery company’s office near Landmark Palace in Majitha.

The complainant, identified as Jugraj Singh, a resident of Jethunangal Road, Majitha, told the police that two youths entered the office. One of them pulled out a pistol and allegedly threatened the employees, asking them to hand him whatever they had. The manager, along with his associate Jashanpreet Singh, allegedly confronted the armed youth and managed to overpower him.

The suspect was later identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Sri Hargobindpur in Gurdaspur district. His alleged accomplice, Happy, also from Sri Hargobindpur, escaped from the scene and was yet to be arrested, police said.

The police recovered a .30-bore pistol from Sukhwinder Singh. The weapon bears the marking “14 SHOT PISTOL MADE AS CHINEA CAL. 30”, according to the police record.

A case under Sections 309 and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered at the Majitha police station.

A probe to establish the role of the absconding accused and determine whether the duo was involved in any other criminal activities is on.
