Service Club president SS Chhina said he would contest the club poll on the plank of development this time. Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, he said the club had a reserve of Rs 1.50 crore after his group came to power in 2005.
Chhina said the club management had increased the membership fee from Rs few thousands to Rs 3 lakh. Yet the people are keen to become its member, he added.
He said 2.5 acre campus of the club boasts off state-of-the-art facilities like swimming pool, squash court and open-air restaurant.
He sounded positive on getting the lease of the club extended from the government which is set to expire in 2020, after nearly about 50 years.
On a historic building, dated back to Maharaja Ranjit Singh era, which is in the possession of the club, he said they had already conveyed the government to undertake its possession. He said the historic structure used to be Deorhi.
He rejected the allegations of the opposite groups that ‘corrupt practices’ had been adopted all these years during elections. He claimed that elections were held after every two years. Chhina said the district administration may appoint observers for the smooth conduct of elections
