Doctor fired at in Beas, robbed of Rs 3K

AMRITSAR: A local resident was robbed and shot at by two persons at Sawan Singh Nagar in Beas here on Monday evening.

A local resident was robbed and shot at by two persons at Sawan Singh Nagar in Beas here on Monday evening. Identified as Sarwan Singh, the victim said the robbers opened fire into the ground near his feet before threatening him into giving them his purse containing Rs 3,000. Before fleeing, they shot him on left knee.

Sarwan Singh stated to the police that at around 8.30 pm on Monday, he closed his clinic and was going to home nearby when two motorcycle-borne persons caught him from behind and pointed a pistol at his head. They demanded his purse. When he refused, they pushed him down and fired a gunshot near his feet. Feared over it, he handed over his purse containing Rs 3,000 to them. Before fleeing, they fired a shot on his knee.

Injured, he raised the alarm following which his father Ajit Singh and brother came to the spot and rushed him to Baba Sawan Singh Charitable Hospital. Doctors referred him to Baba Bakala Civil Hospital from where he was shifted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar.

The police have registered a case under Section 379-B (2) of the IPC and 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act.

Parampal Singh, SSP, Amritsar rural, said an investigation was under way to identify the suspects.
