Orthopaedic surgeon and philanthropist Dr Avtar Singh inaugurated a state-of-the-art gym in Bohru village on Saturday at 1 pm, furthering his vision of promoting fitness and tackling drug abuse among rural youth.
Dr Singh, who has dedicated over three decades to providing exceptional medical care and philanthropic services, has spearheaded numerous initiatives. These include the Amandeep HOPE project, which has delivered free healthcare to more than 54,000 patients across 852 villages, and the Smile Train Project, offering free cleft lip and palate surgeries to underprivileged children.
In addition, he has distributed sports kits to youth in over 33 villages, raised awareness about drug abuse through community graffiti, and supported education and sports development via the Amandeep Cricket Academy and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Academy. He has also provided free OPD services at Durgiana Mandir, offered healthcare through the Jai Ho Mohalla Clinic, and delivered affordable medical treatment under Aman Ki Asha.
Dr Singh’s philanthropic endeavours aim to empower rural communities, promote education and sports, and ensure accessible healthcare. His guiding motto, “Naujawano Kheedan Na Judo Te Nashiaya To Mudo” (Youth, engage in sports and turn away from drugs), inspires communities to prioritise fitness and wellbeing.
The new gym, established in collaboration with the Gram Panchayat Bohru and Sarpanch Captain Sardar Daljit Singh, provides a safe and accessible space for youth to participate in sports and fitness activities.
“Our goal was to empower rural youth to lead healthy and productive lives. With the full support of Sarpanch Captain Sardar Daljit Singh Ji, we have provided a safe space for sports and fitness, helping them channel their energy into positive pursuits and steer clear of substance abuse,” said Dr Singh, Chairman of Udaan Trust, Director of Amandeep Hospital, and Head of the Department of Orthopaedics at Amandeep Hospital, in partnership with Ujala Cygnus.
