Drug peddler held with 10 kg heroin in Amritsar
The Counter Intelligence team of Amritsar Police recovered 10 kg of heroin from a drug peddler, officials said on Wednesday.
In a post on X, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the accused, identified as Harmandeep Singh of Mahal village, was in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers.
“The arrested accused was constantly in-touch with the Pakistan-based smuggler Chacha Bawa, who sent heroin via drones in the Attari sector for further distribution,” the DGP said.
It is being investigated whether he retrieved the contraband or someone else handed him for further supply, he added.
Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was previously booked in a case of scuffle and physical assault.
A case has been registered with State Special Operation Cell, and further investigation is underway to identify other associates.
