Fair sees massive footfall of Indian traders

Amritsar, December 8

A large number of traders across India have reached the 13th edition of the annual Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) with their products. The fair was inaugurated on December 6. Of the total 425 stall, more than 300 are of Indian traders.

Traders from several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir, are here to offer their handicrafts and plethora of items to visitors. Traders from Rajasthan have also come with archery items made of wood.

Handmade handicrafts, bags and jackets are also attracting the visitors.

Garima, owner of HS Enterprises from Uttarkhand, said, “We have come up with handmade bags made by women living in rural areas. The cost of these jute bags is nominal. These bags reflect the designs of Uttarkhand.”

Some of the traders have also brought food items, especially winter snacks such as chiki, gajak and tilpati.

Shyam Goyal from Shyam Tilpatti Udyog, who have come from Jaipur, said, “We are here with different items such as sonpadi and chiki. We come here every year.”

Besides food items, shawls from Jammu and Kashmir, Bhagalpuri silk of Bihar, carpets from Uttar Pradesh, jewellery of Kutch and Gujarat are also attraction of the five-day exhibition.

Girl students visit fair

Nearly 35 students of Mission Deep Educational Institute arrived at Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) on Saturday. As part of social responsibilities, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry invited them.

Special arrangements were made for these girls by the chamber. The girls also purchased items from stalls at the fair. The chamber also provided warm clothes to these girls.

RS Sachdeva, chairman, Punjab chapter of the PHD Chamber of Commerce, and Madhu Pillai, regional director, welcomed the girls. Various stall owners and traders gave them gifts. Later in the day, a health talk was also organised in collaboration with Fortis Escort Hospital.

Medical director, Fortis, Dr HP Singh, and Senior Consultant Dr Mohit Arora made aware the girls of modern techniques being used in the field of cardiovascular diseases and joint replacement.
