Four members of a migrant family clashed with an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), who was chasing a youth after he fled a checkpoint (naka) near the Polytechnic College road here on Wednesday.
While he was being chased, the accused, Shashi of Vikas Nagar, entered his house where his family manhandled the ASI and helped him flee. Meanwhile, a police team, which was following them, turned up and nabbed the accused along with his family members. As much as 260 gm of heroin was seized from Shashi’s possession.
Besides Shashi, those arrested are his cousin Kulesh of Bihar, mother Juna Devi, alias Anju, and sister Khushi. A case under Sections 353, 323, 506, 186, 34 of the IPC and Sections 21, 29, 61, 85 the NDPS Act was registered against them.
Satish Kumar, investigating officer, said the police team, headed by ASI Balwinder Singh, had established a naka near Polytechnic College. Shashi, who was on a bike, was signalled to stop. However, he fled towards Vikas Nagar, leaving his bike behind. ASI Balwinder Singh ran after him. Shashi entered his house. It was later found that Shashi and his family had been living in the house on rent. They scuffled with Balwinder and “tore” his uniform. Other cops reached there and nabbed the accused. During search, the police found 260 gm of heroin.
According to Satish Kumar, the police got the accused on two-day remand for further investigation. The accused is being questioned to ascertain whom did he procure the contraband from. Initial probe pointed out that Shashi had brought the heroin from Delhi.
Earlier, a similar case was registered against Shashi in Gate Hakima. He had recently come out on bail.
