Amritsar farmer duped of Rs 12.85L on pretext of sending his son to Canada on agriculture permit

The Jandiala police have booked four persons for allegedly duping a farmer identified as Sham Singh of Devidaspura village of Rs 12.85 lakh on the pretext of sending his son Vishal Singh to Canada on agriculture permit.

The accused identified as Balraj Kaur, her husband Baljit Singh and Waras Singh of Jandiala Guru and Dalbir Singh of Devidaspura village were booked following a probe conducted by the Deputy Superintendent of Police. The investigations confirmed that the accused defrauded Sham Singh and therefore DSP (Special branch) recommended registration of FIR against them, though no one has been arrested in the case so far.

Sham Singh said the accused took the money from October 2020 to March 2022. He said, “Dalbir Singh is a native of our village, while Balraj Kaur is his daughter.” He said Dalbir told him that Balraj’s son Rohitpreet Singh lives in Canada.

He lured him that Balraj Kaur and Baljit Singh would help him in sending his son Vishal Singh to Canada on agriculture permit. He said the deal was settled at Rs 22 lakh and they demanded Rs 12 lakh in advance and Rs 10 lakh after Vishal goes to Canada.

He said he trusted them and therefore took loan against his 10 acres of land and also mortgaged his property to two persons. He deposited a total amount of Rs 12.85 lakh on different dates in the bank accounts of Baljit Kaur, Balraj Singh, Dalbir Singh and Waras Singh. He said the accused also took his cheque book from him.

He alleged that the accused neither sent his son abroad nor returned the amount. Now, they were threatening to implicate him in a cheque bounce case using his cheque book. He said he was still paying the installments of the loan taken on his land.

The police authorities said a case under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC was registered against the four accused and raids were on to nab them.
