The intermittent showers in the region since last evening have brought the chill back, much to the delight of city residents, who have developed a feeling that winters will be over soon. The rain has also come as a blessing for the people facing problems due to cough and other breathing related ailments.

Civil Surgeon Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai said, “The rain has washed down the dust particles, which cause breathing trouble to elderly, children and those with asthmatic conditions. The air is more clear now and cough related problems will go down.” He said chest congestion and cough problems were frequent in dry cold weather.

Meanwhile, the chill couldn’t deter residents as most of them came out on roads, enjoying drive as well as snacks at roadside vends and restaurants. It also resulted in traffic congestion at many places.

“This is, so far, the best rain of the season. There has been no flooding on roads which normally occurs after heavy rain. Everything looks so fresh and clean,” said Sunil Devgan at the Company Bagh. The rush at the place was more than the usual days as residents had a leisure walk through the lush green passages.

The farming community, too, will benefit from the showers as experts say rain will do good to crop. “The cold weather is good for wheat. The rain has increased the time of cold spell. It will result in a good produce,” said Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Dalbir Singh Chinna.
