Our Correspondent

Tarn Taran, July 11

A granthi along with two persons have been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman on the premises of a gurdwara in Fatehpur Sugga village, 20 km from here.

The incident occurred on June 27 and the case was registered on July 10 (Tuesday).

ASI Jassa Singh, investigating officer, said the accused had been identified as Gurjit Singh, granthi of a local gurdwara, Arshdeep Singh and Sahib Singh Sabu of the same village. The 25-year-old victim is married. She said that she was sitting in Baba Jeewan Singh Gurdwara when Arshdeep Singh came and sat near her. She said when she raised objection over some objectionable remarks passed by Arshdeep, Gurjit Singh and Sahib Singh took her photographs with the youth. The photos were captured in Sahib’s mobile. She claimed that the accused threatened her to upload the photographs on social media, which they did in no time.

Jassa Singh said the three accused were arrested and presented before a court in Patti on Wednesday. The court sent them to judicial lock-up for 14 days. Sections 354 and 34 of the IPC have been slapped on them.

Teenager molested

In another case, Gurjinder Singh of Bhalaipur Dogran village, 30 km from here, has been booked for allegedly molesting a teenage girl of the same village. The victim, in her complaint to the Verowal police, alleged that the accused molested her on July 2 when she had gone to the village market for shopping.

ASI Heera Singh, investigating officer, said the accused was at large and raids were being conducted to nab him. The case was registered under Section 354 of the IPC, and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO)-2012 on Tuesday.
