The total fine collected was pegged at Rs 2.71 crore, including over Rs 43 lakh from the Amritsar railway station.

As for cleanliness, regular checks are conducted at the division's main stations. Those found littering are penalised.

In July, 137 passengers were fined over Rs 53,000 for littering the station under the Anti-Littering Act.

Giving passengers' safety a priority, the Ferozepur division keeps launching awareness campaigns on risks posed by illegal level-crossing.

The objective of this campaign is to make people understand that instead of crossing railway tracks, which puts their lives at risk, they can use foot overbridges, subways or authorised routes.

Officials say passengers should avoid using mobile phones while crossing railway gates and be mindful of the approaching trains.

The Ferozepur division, through the Railway Protection Force and other departments, continuously disseminates safety messages to the public through awareness programmes at stations, level-crossings and surrounding areas, announcements, posters, and social media messages.

The division has appealed to all passengers and the general public to stay safe, be vigilant, and follow railway rules.
