The city police booked five persons for immigration fraud here on Thursday.

In his complaint lodged with the Cantonment police station, the victim, Manjit Singh, said the accused cheated him of Rs 5.35 lakh on the pretext of sending him to Singapore and providing him a job there. The accused did not fulfil their promises nor did they return the money.

The accused have been identified as Sarbjit Singh, alias Sabi, a resident of Talwandi village near Jaintipur, Jashmir Singh, alias Kala, a resident of Abdaal village near Kathu Nangal, Kawaljit Singh, alias Kawal, a resident of Hussanpur near Batala, Dheeraj Kumar Sharma, a resident of Gill Colony, Aliwal Road, Batala, and Satnam Singh, alias Mahna, a resident of Bachare in Tarn Taran.

ACP (West) Dev Dutt said a case of fraud under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC had been registered against the accused and further investigation was on. No arrest has been made so far.
