To observe the martyrdom day of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, the Deputy Commissioner and other administrative officials on Friday paid floral tributes to his photograph installed at the Martyrs’ Memorial Museum at Jallianwala Bagh. A solemn tribute was also paid at the eternal flame at the martyrs’ memorial in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh said that the martyrs of the nation whether freedom fighters, officers on duty, police personnel or others who laid down their lives in the line of duty or while protecting the interests of the nation are invaluable assets of the country.
During the ceremony, police personnel presented a special salute at the eternal flame, a symbol of the martyrs of India’s freedom struggle and the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Officials observed a two-minute silence, and the police band played patriotic tunes.
“Martyrs are the true capital of any nation and always remain a source of inspiration for future generations. Today’s generation should draw guidance from the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi, whose principles of non-violence and tolerance are what the world needs the most today,” he said.
Senior officials of the district administration, along with others, were present on the occasion.
