Amritsar, November 18

Construction of a foot overbridge (FOB) has commenced near platform 6 and 7 at the railway station here. Passengers were demanding the FOB for swift connectivity to other platforms and entry and exit points at the railway station.

Sanjiv Behal, a passenger, said, “We have to walk to other platforms with bags and baggage from platform 1. With the construction of a FOB, precious time and efforts will be saved.”

Platform 6 and 7 provide more space to the Railways for accommodating around 76 trains, which arrive and depart from the railway station every day. Giving average 10 minutes to each train to drop and pick up passengers, roughly 10 hours are consumed in the arrival and departure of trains.

Therefore, five platforms were insufficient to handle the rush of trains. The issue of train management was resolved to great extent after these two platforms commissioned.

Railway officials said a hanging power cable, supplying electricity to trains, would come in the way while constructing the roadway of the FOB. The construction work will be carried out on that portion of the FOB by snapping the power supply when no train will pass underneath. The officials said the construction work would be carried out without hampering the regular flow of trains.
