Amritsar, January 22

After getting the High Court flak over illegal hotels inside the walled city, the Municipal Town Planning wing of the Municipal Corporation (MC) sealed four under-construction hotel buildings in the walled city here on Tuesday.

Separate teams, led by the assistant town planners, visited around 15 hotels and sealed those buildings where construction had been going on.

A team sealed two hotels at Shera Wala Gate and near Jallianwala Bagh. MC employees stopped illegal construction at Bhushanpura and sealed another hotel hear Mahan Singh Gate.

Assistant Town Planner Jagdev Singh stated that the drive would continue and no one would be allowed to construct buildings in the walled city.

It is worth mentioning here that the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) had on January 15 instructed the special investigating team (SIT), the Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner and the Municipal Town Planner to take action over the illegal construction of hotels in the walled city or show cause for not taking appropriate action. Now, the MC has to submit the status report on the next hearing on April 11.

The officials said punitive action would continue against the errants.
