It was a freak road mishap that snuffed out the lives of two persons, including a woman, whose heads were severed in the accident occurred on GT Road, near Khalsa College, late last evening.

One person sustained serious injuries in the accident and he was rushed to a private hospital.

Mystery shrouded the death of two as head of one of the person, identified as Micky, got severed from the body, while head of woman slashed in two. She was identified as Manjit Kaur. The third victim, Raghu Raj, who was driving the scooter rushed to a private hospital. His condition is stated to be serious.

Earlier, it was being looked as murder as one possible reason after people saw severed heads. Today, Police Commissioner SS Srivastva visited the spot along with Deputy Commissioner of Police Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Kumar Malik.

Srivastva said the duo lost their life as they were travelling on the scooter at a very high speed. The area was engulfed in the darkness due to dysfunctional streetlights. The victims could not locate the divider of the BRTS corridor station. After hitting the divider the victims collided with the iron grills leading the brutal mishap.

“We have enough evidence to suggest that it was an accident contrary to the suspicion raised in certain media about it being a murder. The third victim admitted in the hospital also corroborated the same,” he said.

Mukhwinder Singh said the postmortem examination of the deceased also hinted at death in accident. The incident occurred around 11 pm. The eyewitnesses said they heard the scooter sound screeching on the ground and bodies scattered on the road. It appeared that both the boys were heavily drunk.

A security guard at the BRTS corridor station wishing not to be named said the scooter was at a very high speed and hit the iron grills. The driver and scooter were dragged to 190-feet from the point where it hit the divider of the corridor. Later, he found dead bodies of the two victims with severed heads.
