Gurdaspur: Free coaching classes launched to support aspirants in border district colleges

Sonali Giri, Secretary (Education), today inaugurated free coaching classes at the Government College to prepare students of the border district for competitive examinations.

She said such initiatives are the need of the hour as they help economically weaker students prepare for these examinations.

Appreciating the role of District Guidance Counsellor Mukesh Verma, who has motivated scores of students to prepare for such tests, she felicitated him by presenting a plant.

An official said, “Such classes break the cycle of privilege by allowing talented, low-income aspirants to compete with candidates who can afford expensive private academies. Students receive expert guidance, current affairs updates and strategies from experienced educators and even civil servants.”

District Education Officer (DEO) Paramjit Kaur briefed the Secretary about various guidance and counselling initiatives being undertaken by the Gurdaspur Education Department.

Prominent among those present on the occasion were Deputy Commissioner Aditya Uppal and Principal of Government College Ashwani Bhalla.
