The local police on Sunday claimed to have nabbed a gangster, identified as Sanjiv Sikka, along with two illegal weapons. A fresh case under the Arms Act was registered against him while his two accomplices managed to slip away from the spot.

In a statement released here, Police Commissioner Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill said that the police received a tip-off that three persons carrying firearms were seen in the Gujjapura locality. Immediately a police team was despatched and Sikka was arrested from the spot.

He said the police recovered two illegal revolvers along with five live cartridges from his possession. His two accomplices identified as Pardeep Kumar Piddu and Sunny Mullechak managed to slip away from the spot. The Police Commissioner said around 10 criminal cases registered against him at various police stations in the district.

He said the accused was brought on police remand for further interrogation.
