Akal Takht: Missing saroops case SIT must comprise Amritdhari Sikh police officers
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj on Monday said the special investigation team (SIT) probing the matter related to 328 sacred saroops must comprise Amritdhari (baptised) Sikh police officers.
He said the decision was taken after several complaints of violation of the Sikh rehat maryada were reported.
In another decision, he barred Barnala-based Sikh preacher Gurjant Singh from performing kirtan. The preacher was summoned after he uttered objectionable remarks against Guru Nanak Dev during a Gurmat programme held recently.
Further, Giani Gargaj instructed office-bearers of Gurdwara Sahib Winnipeg South Sikh Centre — president Nishan Singh, secretaries Baljinder Singh, Mohan Singh, Navdeep Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Rachhpal Singh and Pardeep Singh — to personally appear before Akal Takht and submit their stand within 10 days.
He asked them to allow the sangat to visit the gurdwara and stop all activities being carried out contrary to Gurmat.
The Jathedar prohibited spalshing of colours on the sangat during Holla Mohalla at Sri Anandpur Sahib. He added that it was completely unjustified and against Sikh principles, and is therefore strictly banned.
He also held Punjab Government responsible for violation of maryada after two police officials in civvies entered the Golden Temple and held two accused without the prior knowledge of the SGPC.
