Case registered against godown in-charge and his associates
A case has been registered against a godown in-charge and his associates for allegedly misappropriating LPG cylinders and cash at a gas agency here.
Channan Singh Sidhu, a retired Army officer and owner of Sandeep Gas Service, located in the Anngarh area, lodged a complaint accusing Kuldeep Singh, who had been working as godown in-charge for the past 10 years, of illegally selling LPG cylinders and misappropriating funds during the recent crisis arising out of the US-Iran war leading to shortage of gas.
The incident also highlighted black marketing of the LPG as accused allegedly admitted to have sold gas cylinders.
Sidhu, who has been running the agency for 44 years, stated that a routine stock verification conducted by his office staff in March revealed a significant shortage of cylinders at the godown near Gate Hakima. The missing stock included cylinders of 14.2 kg, 19.576 kg and 5.07 kg capacities.
During questioning, Kuldeep Singh allegedly confessed to selling cylinders to meet his financial needs and promised to repay the amount within a month. The complainant further alleged that Kuldeep Singh, along with his relatives and associates — Nirmal Singh and Satnam Singh — also siphoned off Rs 3.59 lakh cash.
The accused were reportedly handling stock and financial records after March 1, raising suspicion of a larger conspiracy. Sidhu pointed out that cylinders formed part of the government-regulated stock and were not meant for open sale in the market.
The police said that a case under Sections 306 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered against the accused in this connection. The police have initiated an investigation to recover missing cylinders and the embezzled amount.
