Punjabi author Narjan Singh Gill released his book titled Punjab at the Virsa Vihar here on Saturday. The book comprising of Punjabi poetry that also serves as a social commentary and satire on issues prevailing in Punjab, was appreciated by the present eminent literary personalities, including Shiromani poet Ajaib Singh Hundal and Shiromani theatre director Kewal Dhaliwal.

Dhaliwal, while talking about Narjan Singh’s book, said the poet had poured his soul into the verse, his emotions resonating with each word. “The fact that such sensitivity is required while writing, especially poetry, makes it an excellent read. At a time, when Punjabi literature along with other regional language literature is facing a challenge to find readers, such a piece of literature must be acknowledged and promoted.”

Hundal, who stressed on bringing back the ‘soul’ into the Punjabi literature, said, “When the market is full of fluff pieces that hardly raise subjects that need attention, books that put forward realities of life in a way that is thought provoking as well as light read, need special mention. Punjab is such a book that brings together meaningful writing and scope for reaching out to young as well as old readers.” Narjan Singh shared that the process of the writing and bringing out the book took almost a year. “It is challenging to find publishers that share the same vision with a writer. So, I did not want hurry things and poetry has always, for me, been something cathartic. When a subject makes me go deep inside and bring out my best, only then I take to writing.”

The event was attended by eminent literary names from Amritsar and Ludhiana.
