Girl students urged to apply for scholarship

Under the guidance of District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Tarn Taran, Kanwaljit Singh Bajwa, an awareness and training programme on the Pragya Scholarship Scheme was organised today for the students of Akal Academy, Dhotian.

Addressing the students on the occasion, Shri Kanwaljit Singh Bajwa informed them that the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), through the CSR funds of Coal India Limited, has launched the ‘Pragya’ Scholarship Scheme to provide scholarships to 1,000 needy and underprivileged girls across the country for a period of four years. He stated that the scholarship is available to eligible girl students studying in Class VIII or above.

Explaining the eligibility criteria in detail, he said that the scheme is intended for girls whose parents are deceased, whose family has lost its primary earning member, who are physically disabled, whose parents are financially unable to bear the cost of education, whose father is in jail and whose mother’s income is insufficient, or who are facing other similar exceptional circumstances. Such eligible students can avail themselves of the benefits of the scheme. Students were urged to inform their school authorities or contact the DLSA if they or any eligible girl student met the prescribed criteria.
