The award was conferred by the Punjab Kala Sahitya Akademi, Jalandhar, during the 29th Warsi Akademi Prize Distribution Ceremony, dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the ninth Sikh Master, Guru Tegh Bahadur.
Prof Sunil Kumar is a prominent figure in Hindi literature and has consistently contributed commendable work in teaching, research and writing. He has been closely associated with the Vishwa Hindi Sahitya Seva Sansthan for his notable accomplishments in Hindi literature and research. More than 70 of his research papers have been published in national and international journals and magazines. He is also a well-known writer and critic.
In addition to authoring three books, he was awarded the International Premchand Award-2025 by the Indo-Norwegian Information and Cultural Forum, Norway, earlier this year for his contributions to literature. He has also actively promoted the Hindi language through the university’s theatre club and several of his plays have been staged at various university festivals.
Prof Sunil Kumar expressed gratitude to Punjab Kala Sahitya Akademi president Dr Simar Sadosh and the academy’s office-bearers for bestowing this honour upon him.
