GNDU ranked second cleanest govt varsity

The Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has been ranked second cleanest higher educational institution in the country in the category of government universities, based on a survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development under ‘Swachh Campus Ranking 2018. The initiative is a part of Swachhta Hi Sewa campaign.

GNDU Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Jaspal Singh Sandhu received the award from Union Minister of MHRD Prakash Javadekar during an award function in New Delhi on Monday.

Based on the marks obtained under the notified parameters, 132 institutions were selected by the MHRD for field inspection by the UGC. A three-member committee, constituted by the UGC, visited Guru Nanak Dev University for inspection in September. The university was assessed for toilet adequacy and maintenance, garbage clearance system, hostel kitchen hygiene, sophistication of equipment, water purity, storage, distribution facility, campus greenery and rainwater harvesting, use of solar system and villages or neighbourhood adoption for hygiene by the MHRD team.

The Swachhata ranking of higher educational institutions is a significant annual exercise under the cleanliness campaign of the Central Government. The rankings are intended to lead towards more hygienic and ecologically-responsible campuses by generating healthy competitions amongst institutions and awarding the best of them.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu thanked the students, teachers and employees and hoped that in the future as well, they would support to make the university an ideal institution.

“To create a clean and safe environment, the university has started the process of cycling by making big parking lots near both gates. Special efforts have been made to renovate the infrastructure in Mata Kaulan Botanical Park. More saplings have been planted,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
