After a wait of eight years, the first phase of the Gobindgarh Fort project was launched in the presence of Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal.

The fort will be seen in a tech-savvy makeover, with the first phase comprising of a 3D live show, projection mapping, a food street and entertainment shows. It will be turned into a virtual reality theme park, with Bollywood actor and director Deepa Sahi and Ketan Mehta being at the helm of affairs.

Besides developing virtual reality shows and highlighting significant aspects of Punjabi culture, special features of the fort include a 3D flyover, with live shows depicting Battle of Saragarhi, Lion of Punjab, and a show on Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s life, using holography and pepper ghost technology.

A food street, ‘Swaad Gali’, will have Amritsari and Punjabi cuisine, while a shopper’s corner, ‘Punjabi Haat’ will showcase handloom and handicrafts. The culture spaces will be hosting Bollywood events on a regular basis and the Gobindgarh Kohinoor annual awards will also be presented to personalities from the fields of art and culture.

The theme park has been developed on a PPP mode by Deepa’s company and the entry ticket is kept at Rs 25. The tickets for the 3D shows will vary between Rs 150- 200.

The restoration process of the 18th Century fort has been divided into three phases. While the first phase has been inaugurated, the second and third phases, which include structural restoration, will complete by 2021.
