Tarn Taran: Five armed miscreants robbed cash and gold ornaments from a house at Dugalwala village on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. The victim, Baljinder Kaur, was sleeping along with her son and daughter in the house when the armed robbers trespassed into her residence at midnight. The miscreants looted Rs 30,000 and gold ornaments (weighing three-and-a-half tola) at gunpoint. The robbers also took grocery items worth Rs 2,300 kept in the kitchen.ASI Baljinder Singh of the local Sadar police said a case under Sections 395, 398 and 458 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act had been registered against the unidentified accused. Illegal structure razed by mc wing

Amritsar: An illegal construction at Durgiana Temple Heritage Walk was removed by the estate wing of the Municipal Corporation on Friday evening. A local person was constructing a hotel along Durgiana Temple Heritage Walk. The builder had already constructed a room by illegally occupying Heritage Street outside the hotel. On receiving a complaint, a team of the estate wing demolished the construction with a ditch machine. Estate Officer Dharminderjit Singh stated that no illegal construction would be allowed in the city. TNS

Man held with 1.5-kg opium

Tarn Taran: A team of the CIA, led by Inspector Prabhjit Singh, arrested a man in the Chohla Sahib area on Friday and seized 1.5 kg of opium from his possession. The police said the accused had been identified as Baljit Singh Nikka, a resident of Kambo Dhai Wala, who was arrested near his village. A case under Sections 18-B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered.
