Councillor Ajit Singh Bhatia has opposed the Municipal Corporation’s (MC) action of removing the gates from the Golden Avenue locality. He met the Mayor and MC Commissioner regarding it on Wednesday. He demanded reinstallation of the gates.
Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu reportedly informed Bhatia that Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of Minister for Local Governments Navjot Singh Sidhu, had issued the directions regarding it. Following this, Ajit Singh Bhatia along with area residents met Dr Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Bhatia said, “Navjot Kaur Sidhu was misinformed by someone. We clarified the purpose of gates and she asked to reinstall the gates for safety purpose. A school owner and councillor of ward 29 had been campaigning against the gates for their vested interests.”
Meanwhile, Mithu Madan, son of Vijay Madan, councillor of ward 29, said, “Navjot Kaur Sidhu visited our ward to inaugurate development works on Tuesday. Area residents complained about the gates installed on the main road by the residents of Golden Avenue. Sidhu visited the spot and found that the gates were major obstacle in the movement of traffic. She instructed for the removal of the gates. Residents will not allow reinstalling the gates.”
It is worth mentioning here that the MC had removed three gates of the Golden Avenue locality with ditch machines on Tuesday.
