Former MLA of Khadoor Sahib Ravinder Singh Brahmpura criticised the state government for its failure in taking effective steps to deal with the second wave of Covid.

He accused the state government of imposing unreasonable restrictions on shopkeepers and escaping its responsibility.

He said the scientists had already warned that the deadly second wave of Covid-19 with mutants was inevitable, but the state government did not take enough precautionary measures to control it.

“When the situation worsened, the government took stringent measures such as imposing restrictions and weekly lockdown. But as the CM himself admitted, it is not a solution to the problem. Rather, it has hit small shopkeepers, vegetable vendors and traders hard by bringing their limited source of income to a standstill. The government must compensate them for the losses,” he said.

Sparing a thought for the protesting farmers at Delhi borders, he said, “Farmers have been sitting at Delhi borders for over six months and if Covid spreads among them, the situation will be bad and uncontrollable. In view of the pandemic, the state government must take concrete steps to resolve the standoff between farmers and the Centre.”

Meanwhile, former BJP president and Rajya Sabha member Shwait Malik also stated that despite high mortality rate in the state, the Punjab Government failed to vaccinate all people above 18. Malik said the Centre had given a grant from the PM Cares Fund to the state government for setting up three oxygen plants, but due to its inaction, only Faridkot Medical College got a plant while it failed to set up the same at Government Medical College in Amritsar and Patiala. He alleged that due to this, many patients lost their lives.
