Amritsar: Doctors from Sri Guru Ram Das Charitable Hospital, including Dr Raj Kumar Aggarwal, Dr Gagan Khanna, and others, along with Dr Vivek Sood, Dr Gurpal Bhullar, and Dr Daljit Saluja from the USA, conducted Total Knee Replacement surgeries on 25 needy patients free of cost. Dr Aggarwal, Head of the Department of Orthopedics, emphasised the collaborative effort between SGRD Charitable Hospital and the Medical Volunteer Team from Operations International USA in organising the surgery camp. He stated that the collective expertise and dedication to advancing orthopedic care have not only transformed the lives of numerous patients but have also set a benchmark in the field of surgical excellence.

Strengthen Disease Surveillance

Amritsar: The District Health Department organised a training workshop under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP), which was attended by community health officers. Civil Surgeon Dr Kirandeep Kaur emphasised that many communicable diseases, including TB, Cholera, Swine Flu, Covid, Malaria, Chikungunya, Hepatitis, and waterborne diseases, can be controlled through active surveillance. She also mentioned that these diseases are treated free of cost at government hospitals.

Routine Immunisation for Children

Amritsar: A training session for routine immunisation of children was held by the district immunisation office, attended by block nodal officers and medical officers. District Immunisation Officer Bharti Dhawan emphasized that routine immunisation protects children from 12 deadly diseases by helping them build immunity. Additionally, the department is uploading each child’s immunisation record online for easy access when needed.

Surgery Saves Life

Amritsar: Vikramjit Singh (50), who was suffering from severe jaundice and a tumour in his stomach and small intestine, was given a new lease of life after a successful Whipple surgery at Max Hospital. Dr. Manmohan Bedi, Associate Director of General Surgery, explained that Vikramjit was critically ill, with yellowish discoloration of his eyes. After further tests, a tumour in the duodenum was diagnosed. The complex surgery involved removing parts of the intestine, pancreas, bile duct, and stomach to stop the bleeding.
