Holi fervour grips city residents

Holi, the festival of colours, was celebrated with fervour and gaiety at Laxmi Narayan Temple, inside Durgiana Temple complex, here on Wednesday. The festival started with a kirtan, followed by a rath yatra.

The devotees applied colours to each others and danced to the tunes of religious songs. Children, dressed as Radha and Krishna, participated in the religious procession. Tourists from other countries also joined the celebrations and participated in the procession.

The roads were abuzz with youngsters riding bikes and throwing colours at passersby. Hooliganism too was reported as some of the bikers deliberately targeted girls, throwing water balloons at them.

Even in localities, commuters faced a tough time trying to save themselves from children who were busy throwing water balloons from the rooftops of their houses.

At a police post in Anngarh, a group of five young girls were seen complaining about hooligans on bikes targeting them with colours. However, after venting their anger for few minutes they preferred to move on.

A senior citizen, Ravinder Singh, said, “It is good that people are participating in this festival, but they must keep in mind that someone might be going to office or for other important work. Colour should be applied only to those in the known circle. Unknown people should be spared as sometimes these acts lead to quarrels.”

Teenagers, too, rode bikes and most of them resorted to tripple riding. “The foremost duty of the parents is to tell their wards about what to do and what not to,” said another resident, Jagveer Kaur.
