Hotel and restaurant owners have expressed resentment over the decision of the Municipal Corporation (MC) to install garbage recycling machines.

Amritsar Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHARA) president APS Chatha said, it was practically not possible for all hotels to install garbage recycling machine, basic version of which costs Rs 2.5 lakh. He said only one member of the AHARA had installed the said machine.

Chatha said the government had installed two sewerage treatment plants after investing crore of rupees. He said the installation of another solid waste management plant (SWMP) was in the pipeline.

AHARA general secretary Piyush Kapoor said, hotels and restaurants pay charges to the MC for garbage lifting and its disposal. He added that it was practically not impossible to segregate dry and wet garbage.

Both matters were taken up during the monthly meeting of the AHARA held on Monday.

Chief guest IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh released the table planner for the AHARA members.

He also handed down the Punjab’s Best General Managers (Hospitality) Awards, given on behalf of the AHARA to Piyush Kapoor of Hotel Ritz Plaza, Sumit Taneja of Taj Swarna, JP Sohal of Radisson Blu, Sumeet Ganguly of Regenta Central, Vandana Kumar of Best western Merrion, Vikas Sharma of Country Inn Suites and Abhimanyu Mehra of Ranjit’s Svassa.
