Amritsar, July 27

In order to make Punjab a crime-free and drug-free state, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has ordered all Commissioners of Police and SSPs to increase manpower in all police stations in their jurisdiction by withdrawing police personnel from non-core duties.

The DGP covered Commissionerate and Amritsar Border Range during his field visit and held crime review meetings with CP, IGPs of Border Range, SSPs, gazetted officers and SHOs of the Border Range.

He also proposed to deploy at least one Quick Reaction Team and two Armed Reserves per district having highly trained police personnel trained on the lines of Special Operations Group to deal with emergent situations.

He also directed CPs/SSPs to divide police station areas in beats and said one beat officer be dedicated in each area so that accountability of a police officer for specific areas is fixed.

He asked them to direct SHOs to open history sheets of bad characters and list them out to keep vigil on their activities. He asked SHOs to personally probe heinous crimes.

With the Independence Day around the corner, the DGP also asked the CPs and SSPs to be alert and prepared to tackle any challenge besides keeping a vigil at sensitive places.

He also directed district police chiefs to hold monthly crime review meetings at district level and regular Monday parade. He asked them to ensure citizen-friendly policing while keeping the channels of communication open with the civic society. He said any anti-social element should not be spared at any cost and asked officials to motivate people to install CCTV cameras outside their properties.
