Tarn Taran, August 4
The INTACH Tarn Taran Chapter organised an educational visit to the historic site of Assal Uttar and the Abdul Hamid Memorial on Sunday. The visit was conducted in remembrance of the bravery and sacrifices of soldiers during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965.
The group was led by INTACH Punjab State Convenor, Major General Balwinder Singh, and INTACH Tarn Taran Chapter Convenor, Dr Baljit Kaur. Major General Balwinder Singh provided a compelling narrative of the heroic actions of General Harbaksh Singh and other brave soldiers during the journey, enriching the experience with historical insights and personal anecdotes.
The visit to Assal Uttar village was especially significant as it marked the location of a critical battle during the 1965 Indo-Pak War. The site, often referred to as “Patton Nagar” due to the large number of destroyed Pakistani Patton tanks in the war. The members paid homage to the bravery of the soldiers and reflected on the pivotal role played by figures like Gen. Harbaksh Singh and Abdul Hamid. — OC
