Amritsar: Central Jail authorities confiscated 35 gm of some intoxicant substance from a jail inmate, identified as Sawan, alias Gori, of Tung Bala, Majitha road.



Amritsar: Central Jail authorities confiscated 35 gm of some intoxicant substance from a jail inmate, identified as Sawan, alias Gori, of Tung Bala, Majitha road. The police have also booked Jeewan Lal of Indira Colony who had come to jail to meet him as he is suspected to have handed the intoxicant to the accused. Sawan has been convicted in a robbery case that was registered in September 2017. Jail authorities informed the police that Jeewan had come to meet him. During routing checking, the police found intoxicant from Sawan when he returned to the jail. TNS

Yatra leaves for Baba Bakala

Amritsar: Followers of Damdami Taksal, led by its head Sant Harnam Singh Dhumma, bade farewell to Shabad Guru Yatra after its overnight halt at the Sikh seminary on Sunday. Being organised to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the ‘yatra’ (procession) left for Baba Bakala town. Shiromani Committee member Bhagwant Singh Sialka installed Guru Granth Sahib in the Palki Sahib (palanquin). Sangat showered flowers on the palanquin. The Shabad Guru Yatra had commenced from Sultanpur Lodhi from January 7. TNS
