Jail inmate escapes from police custody
A jail inmate identified as Amarjit Singh dodged police team and fled from the police custody. He was being taken to Gharinda police station after his appearance in the local court.
The police have registered a case against him while efforts were on to arrest him. The incident occurred on Friday late evening.
According to information, Amarjit Singh was produced in a court by the police team led by ASI Rasal Singh. The court sent him to judicial custody for 14 days. However, due to delay in documentation, the police took his transit remand and took him back to Gharinda police station to put him in the lock up.
When he was being taken to the police station, the accused requested the police team to stop the vehicle on a side near Khasa on the pretext of answering the call of nature. The police said the accused pushed the cop who was holding his handcuff and fled in the fields. Though he was chased but he managed to escape taking the advantage of darkness.
Amandeep Singh, SHO Gharinda police station said that a case under section 262 of BNS has been registered against Amarjit Singh while investigation was also carried out to find the role of the police team. If they were found to be negligent appropriate action would be initiated against them also.
