Three women players — Reet, Priyanka and Gagandeep — from the Khalsa Hockey Academy (KHA), being run under the Khalsa College Charitable Society, have been selected for the core junior Indian hockey team for women. They will be representing the country in the junior test series against Ireland and Belarus.

KCGC secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina hailed the performance of the girl athletes, which led to their selection. “It is a matter of great pride and honour that three outstanding players from the academy, who are students of historic Khalsa College, have been selected by the Hockey India for the team and will represent our country in the forthcoming International Hockey tournaments,” he said.

Academy’s Sports Director Kanwaljeet Singh, while congratulating the students, said KCGC management had taken a far-sighted decision regarding establishing this academy to promote the national game in Punjab and Northern India. He added that the academy would flourish. Its players are eyeing to represent India in the next 2020 Olympic Games.

Principal Mehal Singh, Chief Coach Baldev Singh, and Sports In-charge Daljit Singh said the girls won accolades recently for winning the prestigious Nehru Cup (Delhi), Youth Olympics (Netherlands), U-18 Asian Games (Thailand), U-13 Six Nations Tournament Belgium, Spain, Test matches in Australia and Khelo India Games.
