Tarn Taran, June 20
Workers of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC), Punjab, staged a dharna in front of the District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO) on Monday against the alleged irregularities causing a huge loss to the state exchequer in the auction of the 47 acres of common land of Dall village, falling under Khalra area.
The organisation demanded the re-auctioning of the land and threatened the administration to face stir in case the demand was not met.
The organisation raised the issue with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Lakhwinder Singh Randhawa and also presented a memorandum to Satish Kumar DDPO.
Major Singh Kasel, state leader of KMSC, while addressing the workers on the occasion, said the administrator of the gram panchayat Dall kept the auction date secret from villagers to oblige the beneficiary related to the ruling party. The farmer leader said the land had been given on contract for Rs 15,600 per acre, whereas its price was fluctuating between Rs 55,000 and Rs 60,000 per acre in the area.
The organisation demanded strict action against the officers and employees responsible for causing loss to the state exchequer to the tune of lakhs of rupees.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Lakhwinder Singh Randhawa instructed the DDPO to inquire into the matter. After the assurance of fair inquiry, the dharna was lifted.
