KMSC holds dharna at DAC over cops’ ‘brutality’ against farmers

The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC), Punjab, staged a dharna in front of the District Administrative Complex (DAC) here on Monday. They were protesting against alleged brutality of the police while taking possession of farmers’ land at Rakh Shekh Fatta village on August 28 under the expressway project.
Traffic remained disrupted for hours together. Farmers from different villages participated in the dharna which was led by Satnam Singh Pannu, district president of the KMSC. Satnam Singh Pannu, state leader of the KMSC, while addressing on the occasion condemned the highhandedness on the part of the administration which made a bid to take possession of farmers’ land without giving compensation to the farmers.
He said the administration along with heavy police force tried to take possession of the land and the Poclain machines and JCBs were driven into the fields of farmers like Gursewak Singh of Rakh Sekh Fatta, whose land is not to be acquired for the expressway.
His crop on three acres has been ruined with the machines, blamed Satnam Singh Pannu. He said the formulae to give four times price with 30 % extra compensation be given in accordance with the 2013 act to the farmers to acquire of their land. The leaders demanded for the early completion of the service road of the National Highway near Chutala road.
