Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Booh village wins Best KVK Award
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Booh village in Tarn Taran district has been honoured with the ‘Best KVK of Punjab Award for 2024’, recognising its outstanding contributions from among 22 KVKs in the state during the annual zonal workshop for the year 2024 organised by ATARI (Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute), Zone-1. The award was presented to Dr Prabjeet Singh, Deputy Director (Training) by the Chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB), Dr Sanjay Kumar.
Dr US Gautam, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), Dr Jitender Paul Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, Director ATARI Zone-1 Dr Parvender Sheoran and Director, Extension Education, Dr Parkash Singh Brar were present on the occasion.
Dr Prabjeet Singh, Deputy Director, KVK Booh, informed that the award was bagged because of its commitment to farmers’ welfare and its role in promoting agricultural and animal husbandry activities within the rural communities of Tarn Taran. The centre has made significant strides in crop residue management and vocational training, conducting 112 training programmes in 2023-24, which included various short-duration and in-service courses. Additionally, KVK Booh is facilitating a NABARD-funded Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) in village Gharyala, benefiting over 300 farmers.
Recent accolades to KVK include an appreciation award during Pashu Palan Mela for selling the highest quantity of mineral mixture as well as a Chief Minister’s Award for a dairy farmer, Harpreet Singh, who operates under KVK guidance. Dr Prabjeet Singh discussed ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing agricultural challenges in Tarn Taran, such as promoting short-duration rice varieties, in-situ crop residue management, scientific silage making and integrated farming systems.
