High drama was witnessed at the Amritsar District Court Complex on Wednesday after lawyers entered into heated arguments with two police personnel over alleged misconduct, prompting lawyers to block the entry of police vehicles into the premises.

Members of the Amritsar Bar Association said that in the morning, two police personnel allegedly behaved inappropriately with lawyers during a dispute over parking vehicles inside the court complex. The lawyers claimed that congestion caused by vehicles from outside is a recurring problem and has also led to incidents of vehicle theft in the past.

The standoff escalated during the day. As a result, police officers and the staff were forced to park their vehicles along the roadside and walk to the court premises, causing inconvenience to the public and traffic congestion outside. The situation intensified when prison escorts bringing undertrials reportedly had to return due to the blockade, worsening traffic conditions.

ADCP Harpal Singh later held discussions with the protesting lawyers. Following this, entry for police vehicles was restored. The police personnel involved apologised to the lawyers, after which the protest was called off.
